Champaign police chief lays out new crime-fighting strategy

Posted on September 16th, 2009 No Comments

Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney discussed his force’s new problem-solving strategy in front of the Champaign City Council Tuesday. The details of the strategy include dividing the city into separate districts and appointing lieutenants to be in charge of solving problems in each district.

Finney said the strategy was implemented a year ago to address two issues. One, it allowed the Champaign police department to cut costs while not weakening its fight against crime. And two, it gave liutenants the opportunity to focus on individual districts and gain district-specific knowledge in fighting crime.

Champaign-Urbana maintains number one spot in FBI index

Posted on September 10th, 2009 No Comments

Carbondale is inching its way up to become the number one crime district in terms of the FBI Uniform Crime Index. Although that dubious honor does not bode well for Carbondale, it is a good sign for Champaign-Urbana, which currently occupies the number one spot.

The increase in Carbondale’s crime index is largely attributed to an spike in armed robbery and residential burglary attempts. Those two figures make up only part of the index, which also accounts for battery, burglary and sexual assault.

If you have been accused of a crime in either of these areas, contact the Champaign criminal defense lawyers of Bruno Law Offices at 217-328-6000.
