Champaign police chief lays out new crime-fighting strategy

Posted on September 16th, 2009 No Comments

Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney discussed his force’s new problem-solving strategy in front of the Champaign City Council Tuesday. The details of the strategy include dividing the city into separate districts and appointing lieutenants to be in charge of solving problems in each district.

Finney said the strategy was implemented a year ago to address two issues. One, it allowed the Champaign police department to cut costs while not weakening its fight against crime. And two, it gave liutenants the opportunity to focus on individual districts and gain district-specific knowledge in fighting crime.
