5 million containers of baby formula recalled
5 million containers of Similac-brand powder-based baby formula were recalled last week after drug producer Abbott Laboratories issued a voluntary product recall. Executives at Abbott decided to issue the recall after bugs were found in an area of their Michigan manufacturing plant.
Although officials from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigated the plant and product and believe there is no “immediate health risk” associated with the product, affected products could contain small bugs or larvae and could cause digestion problems or stomachache.
The affected products are powder-based and sold in 8 ounce, 12.4 ounce and 12.9 ounce plastic containers.
