Urbana teen charged with unlawful use of weapon

Posted on May 30th, 2012 No Comments

Early Monday morning, an Urbana teen was found near Campustown with a gunshot wound to the back of one of his legs. Police arrived on the scene around 1:30 a.m., where they located the teenager walking around with a bullet in his thigh.

The teenager initially told the police that he was shot from behind while walking in the area, but he could not describe his alleged attacker. Officials at the University of Illinois issued a report to the campus claiming that there was an unidentified shooter that had yet to be apprehended.

Police eventually recovered the gun near the teenager and questioned him about the situation once more. The teenager was unable to produce a weapon handler’s permit and was subsequently arrested for the unlawful use of a weapon. The officials at the university then released another statement revealing that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and that the suspect was in custody.
