Senior defensive lineman for the University of Illinois, Justin Staples, has been suspended indefinitely from the football team after being arrested for drunk driving last month.
Head Coach Tim Beckman originally suspended Staples for two weeks during winter workouts but has since decided to increase the suspension. He is currently practicing with the team but Beckman says he will miss games.
Staples was arrested on February 9 on South Neil Street. His blood alcohol level was registered at 0.157, nearly two times over the legal limit. His court date was scheduled for today. The sociology major has played in all 13 games last season, totaling 16 tackles, one sack, and two pass breakups.
