Last Thursday, 35-year old Austin Way of Urbana plead guilty to one count of aggravated driving under the influence in Champaign County Circuit Court.

In March, Way was driving under the influence on Country Club Road in Urbana.  Way crossed over the center line, hit the driver’s side of 47-year old Klevin Ozier’s vehicle and then fled the scene.  Ozier’s spleen was ruptured in the accident and the passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police were able to match pieces of debris found at the scene of the accident to Way’s vehicle.  After arriving at Way’s home police found him with the vehicle’s keys in his pocket.  Blood alcohol tests after the accident showed Way’s BAC to be three times over the legal limit in Illinois at .22 percent.

In the plea bargain, another DUI count and charges for fleeing the scene of an accident involving injury were dismissed.  The maximum sentence for the DUI charge was 12 years.  He will serve 85 percent of the maximum at 7 years in prison.
