Earlier this month, a Rantoul man was arrested and charged with drunk driving after driving the wrong way on U.S. 45.  Champaign County deputies responded to a call about a possible drunk driver at around 1 a.m.  The driver was reported to be near Leverett Road.

A deputy found him turning off the road and traveling south onto the northbound lane of the highway.  The officer says he used lights and sirens to try to pull the driver over, but he  continued, made a U-turn, and entered the southbound lane of the highway traveling northbound.

The chase ended after the deputy found the 41-year old driver’s vehicle wrecked in a ditch.  After refusing to submit a breath test, the driver was arrested on the suspicion of DUI.
