University of Illinois linebacker Ashante Williams was arrested early last Saturday morning at around 1:30 a.m. for driving under the influence.

The football player was arrested just off of the university’s campus in Urbana. Williams became a drunk driving suspect after an officer pulled him over for a separate traffic violation.

Police reports indicate that the linebacker had a difficult time completing a field sobriety test and admitted to having consumed alcohol. Officers took Williams to the Champaign County Jail. He was released just hours later on a $100 bail.

Officials with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Fighting Illini football team have indefinitely suspended Williams from playing.
