Felony theft charges, specifically two counts of theft over $10,000, have been filed against 48-year-old Robert Rumbelow, the former band director at the University of Illinois, on Friday, September 20 by Champaign County prosecutors, headed by Assistant State Attorney Steve Ziegler, for allegedly selling school musical instruments and keeping the money for himself.

According to Ziegler, Rumbelow allegedly sold four clarinets to a Nashville, Tennessee school district in 2012. Rumbelow was also accused of causing the disappearance of 20 other musical instruments left in his care around June last year.

Prosecutors are still at a loss as to what happened to the other musical instruments.

Rumbelow was arraigned on Tuesday, September 24 on Class 2 felony counts.
