On Thursday, November 14, notorious Boston crime boss, James “Whitey” Bulger, was sentenced to life in prison. Judge Denise J. Casper of Federal District Court handed him two consecutive life sentences plus a five-year jail term.

Last August, Bulger, 84, was convicted of an array of crimes including 31 counts of racketeering, 11 murders, extortion, trafficking cocaine and marijuana, money laundering, and illegal weapon possession.

Judge Casper told Bulger that the “scope, callousness, and depravity of your crimes are almost unfathomable.”

Bulger was ordered to pay $19.5 million in restitution to his victim’s estates and make a separate payment of $25.2 million to the government. It is not confirmed that Bulger possesses the financial capability to pay the entirety of these fines.

Facing numerous felony charges can be especially unnerving since the legal penalties are particularly stringent. If you are in need of a capable defense attorney in the Champaign Urbana area, contact the Bruno Law Offices at (217) 328-6000 to learn more of your legal options.
