Twenty-nine-year-old Mokena, Illinois resident and former Herscher High School Social Studies teacher and coach David Murphy appeared in Kendall County Court on Thursday, January 7 to ask for reduction of his $250,000 bond. Murphy has been charged with nine felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated battery for allegedly assaulting six students – four girls and two boys – at a motel room in Yorkville in December 2015.

Frank Lipuma of Chicago, Murphy’s legal counsel, said Murphy and his girlfriend are expecting a baby and that the $25,000 bail Murphy’s family had already posted on Saturday, January 2, has been causing serious financial problems. Lipuma also told Judge McCann that Murphy has no history of criminal misconduct, and that the defendant has received eleven medals for his service in the military.
